I inherited a customer with a cics that has a goofy set-up. There are three toggle switches that when thrown busy out the first two lines and then direct the third line, when rolled over to, to an answering machine (no call pilot). The switches are old and are giving static on the lines during normal operation. I want to cut out the toggle switches and set up a manual night service button that will direct the lines to the internal ata which I will then cross- connect to the answering machine and not ring any of the sets. Do I need to assign these lines to the ata ext. and if so will it pick up all the time? I only need it to answer when in night service. Any input would be appreciated.

Ata is a single line device can only have 1 line appearance...should work fine as stated with service mode connected to answer machine

Thanks for the reply. I read the faq about night service and should be able to handle most of the steps. I assume just set up a ring group with the ata extention, but do I have to unassign the ata from a certain ring group to keep it from answering during the day? I know if I play around with it enough I can get it to work but my boss has no patience for my experimenting, I have, and this is a quote "42 thousand other service calls tomorrow." I know I'll get it done, just trying to avoid the enevitable "you aren't done yet?" phone call

Just kidding. It's Tuesday you know and something has to amuse me.

knocked it out pretty quick with no issues. I was making it into a bigger deal than it really was. I've been swimming around in panasonic kx-tda land for the last little while and forgot how easy the norstar is. Once I remembered how to get into programming my fingers knew what to do. Thanks for the replies... even the smart-assed ones. - Donny
