All, I am trying to get NICE to work on the current RC2 build for Vista. It appears to work but it disables the Aero theme. The flip 3D feature was something we want to impliment in some sites but cannot do it with NICE behaving this way. Has anyone else seen this? Any solutions thus far? I've had no luck with NICE technical support. Here are the p.c. specs:

HP dx5150 SFF
AMD Athlon x64 processor
1GB RAM
Windows Vista RC2 build 5744.

How can you expect an app to work on an OS that is not even released yet. Do not expect certification on vista for at least another 12 months. You could always raise a PER though.....

When I was born I was so suprised I didn't talk for 18 months

I don't think I have the expectation that it will work. All I'm asking is:

A. Has anyone tried this yet?
B. Has anyone seen similar issues?
C. Has anyone identified what is causing this behavior?

I have spoken with our Microsoft TAM about it and we're trying to decide whether or not it is Windows reacting to the ScreenAgent or whether its the ScreenAgent disabling Aero on its own.

Also, I have opened up a case with NICE and spoken to our engineer. They officially do not anticipate supporting Vista until Spring/Summer 2007 and say they have done no testing or development which actually is suprising considering most large vendors are actively working on getting their products to work. (i.e. McAfee, Altiris etc..)

I would be willing to bet that it is the NICE ScreenAgent disabling the Aero. The ScreenAgent disables the background and screen saver in XP and 2000 by default so I would suspect it of doing something similar in Vista.

Also, the majority of NICE's customers will not be deploying Vista Q1 of '07 so they probably haven't tested anything yet.

I think you're right. I wish I could figure out what it is doing though. Upper level guys at NICE say that Q3 '07 is their target. They don't even have a single person looking at Vista now.

have you tried mucking about in the registry for nice screen and seeing what happens?

It's not getting any smarter out there. You have to come to terms with stupidity, and make it work for you.

Yes I have played a little bit. At one time I though I had found the entry that was the source of the whole problem but I was wrong. I am nearly certain this is something that can be fixed via the registry. I'll just have to keep plugging away until I discover the problem. I have some software that I can run that tells me the registry changes software makes after it is installed. That should shed some light on this.

screen agent uses two methods for recording. hooking and scraping. I know in the past that hooking disables direct x features and scraping is the only way around it. in the registry under hooking method change the value to a 1. then reboot the p.c.
