NIC Card Issues

I am trying to get a NIC card to work on a computer at work.
The type of card is an Accton Cheetah PCI FastEthernet.
The Computer automatically recognizes the card, but it will not work. It will not send or receive any packets from the network. I've tried using a 3com Card and the same result. I know both cards work. Could there be something wrong with the motherboard's PCI slots?

When you say the computer automatically recognises the card, I take it it recognises the card in the operating system and the card appears to work.

The three things to check are:

Is there a link light on both the card and the device it is connected to?
Is the driver loaded correctly and there are no IRQ or DMA conflicts?
Is the layer 3 protocol, e.g. IP or IPX correctly configured for the card?

On a Windows PC you can use either winipcfg or ipconfig to check the last one out.

If using Windows XP ensure the inbuilt firewall is not blocking traffic

It is possible that it is the allocated PCI slot at fault. For reasons I have not seen documented anywhere some cards do not like some slots. Check the Bios and ensure the slot in use is enabled. I have never encountered this with ethernet nics though?

Well I've done some looking on the computer and ran ad-aware
Came up with 280 objects! that cleared up some of the other problems I was having. I have come to the conclusion it's a virus (since no Anti - virus software was on the computer. But when we checked the harddrive from another computer (Mapped the harddrive through the netowrk) nothing came up from Norton. The network card can see the network but is having a fit with resolving DNS. This exe file we found in the Task Manager is something I've never seen before. When you end the process it will load a new exe file and with a diff name. Here is a list of the EXE file names

- vvd1w.exe
- ZriiR.exe
- LixY.exe
- Whn5y.exe
- ypygye5.exe

I've searched everywhere for information on this and it seems like no one has anything about it. If anyone knows about this potential virus and how to remove it please let me know.
