Nfuse ICA slower than Citrix Program Neighborhood ICA

This is a strange issue.

We are using Nfuse to access published desktop via a web page. If I start a published desktop by clicking on the icon in the Nfuse page it is much slower than if I start the ica session via Citrix Program Neighborhood from the workstation ica client software.

On my taskbar they both look identical (ICA icons etc).

Here is an easy test to show the difference. I use arrow keys on the keyboard in MS Word or any similar app. The arrow keys scroll very slow while in the Nfuse ica connection vs very fast with the Citrix Program Neighborhood ica connection.

Anyone else seen this, and is there a cure?

Thanks in advance!

Are using NFuse or WI ?

Is this outside or inside ? I assume this doesn't really matter

Sounds like settings within NFuse admin, but been a long time since I used Nfuse!

>Are using NFuse or WI?

Dumb question but how would I know? I did not install the system so I am not 100% up to speed on it.

The login page looks like this...

If I fail a login I get a link that has nfuse in it, like so.

So I believe it is using Nfuse.

Well, I am guessing that speedscreen is not turned on in my Nfuse server. So I have to try to figure that out one way or the other and see if I can then figure out how to enable it if it is off.

Open up the Citrix Management Console, right click on the farm, properties, go to Speed Screen Browser Acceleration, check of enable.

Yes, Speedscreen is enabled in Citrix Management Console for the farm, but is seems that Nfuse is not interested in that setting. :)

There is an Nfuse.conf file on the Nfuse IIS server.

This document sems to indicate that you can turn on speedscreen in the config file.

I made those changes but it had no effect. I may need to reboot the Nfuse server for it to read the Nfuse.conf config file. I will try that after business hours if I don't find anything else.

If you have more than one Metaframe box, go back to the Citrix Console and right click each server under servers and make sure the setting to use Farm settings is enabled.

Make sure you backup the Nfuse.conf file before making any changes, once you change it, save the file, then run a iisreset to see if that helps.

All good ideas but nothing worked.

Nfuse does not seem to want to engage speedscreen for some reason. Some info I have found on the net indicates to change the template.ica file like so...

[NFuse_IcaWindow]
ZLKeyboardMode=1
ZLMouseMode=1

I did this on the Nfuse server but no help. I am not sure if this template.ica file is supposed to be configured on the farm servers (modify template.ica each one) or if it is supposed to be done on the nfuse/iis server only.

Nfuse server only, I don't think you will find it on the others.

Is it possible that the template.ica file is not being called on the server for some reason? If so, what on the server refers to the template.ica? This speedscreen not working in nfuse problem may drive me to drink. :)

Its Friday, go drink, but do not drive.[wink]

The ica file delivered to the client is rendered at runtime from the template.ica file etc.

Though wait a minute, a light may have gone on....

Open IIS management on your web sserver and see if you can find a site that says Admin at the same level as citrix metaframe. Browse the site, it should give you a gui that you can set the settings on.

Something like

Default Web Site>Citrix>Metaframe>WIAdmin

Looks like it's is working now. I will continue to look at it today. But it looks like I have it going on a couple live farm servers.

Here is what makes it work.

Modify template.ica on the nfuse web server as so.

[NFuse_IcaWindow]
ZLKeyboardMode=1
ZLMouseMode=1

Make sure to only modify the template.ica found in the c:\inetpub\ directory (other copies on the hard drive are not apparently live) You may also have to modify the guest_template.ica but I am not sure about that one. I also did "iisreset" on the web server last nite, so not sure if that did anything or not.

Also, on each Citrix farm server you must enable Nfuse SpeedScreen by running ss3admin.exe (SpeedScreen admin util found in the Citrix Nfuse directory on each farm server) and enabling SpeedScreen for all applications (or modify for your environment).

Thanks to everyone for your help!
