I have an aix 5.2 machine that exports one directory to everyone in ro mode.

I occasionally get problems where client mount requests just
hang with no response, rebooting the server solves the problem for a short period of time but then it returns.

The problem disappeared for months, but has just returned.

On rebooting the server I noticed that the rpc.lockd was failing, and if I do a: lssrc -g nfs then rpc.lockd is shown as inoperative. I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem but was wondering if anyone might have any insight into why it might fail. If I try and start it manually here is what I get:.

# startsrc -s lockd
/usr/sbin/rpc.lockd -[t timeout] [-g grace_period] [-d debug]
0513-059 The rpc.lockd Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 16834.
# /usr/sbin/rpc.lockd -[t timeout] [-g grace_period] [-d debug]
/usr/sbin/rpc.lockd -[t timeout] [-g grace_period] [-d debug]

It would seem to be getting started with the "-d 0" parameter...

Thanks for any help:

It seems to complain about incorrect parameters. What's the output from lssrc -S -s rpc.lockd?

Yea... I got past that bit, rc.nsf was trying to start lockd using startsrc which was trying to use the default paramters set in the odm, somehow instead of "-d 0" being the default set in the odm it had "64 -d 0" in there... the 64 causing it to fail... I had to edit the odm to get rid of the bad field...

Unfortunately that was not my real problem. The original problem still exists... I am exporting an afs filesystem ro. And sometimes something goes wrong such that... everything looks fine on the server, afs seems fine nfs seems fine but the clients cannot mount the exported afs filesystem. He mount command just hangs. If the client allready had the file system mounted then they just stop being able to see into it... (ls /<mount point>) freezes.

I am not sure if it is an afs problem or an nfs problem... Ah well I will keep digging.
