Hi All

I have 2 AIX servers (AIX 4.3.3) and one HP TRU64 server(V5.1A).

Server 1 (AIX) can connect to an exported file from Server 3 ( HP TRU64 )
Server 2 (AIX) cannot connect to the export file from Server 3 ( HP TRU64 )

all hostnames are added into the /etc/hosts file and also .rhosts has been ameded to include this.

On Server 3 ( HP TRU64 ) the export file defines that all users are connections are possible.

When Server 2 tries to mount I get the following :

mount: server Server 3 not responding
: RPC: Success
mount: backgrounding
Server 3:/dump

I have rebooted this server, to see if Inetd is causing the problem.

Any help much appreciated.

regards

Could be AIX 2 system is not allowed to access to the shared resources.
In AIX the file /etc/exports describes exported filesystems and how's allowed to access to the shared dirs

The /etc/exports file on Server 2 has nothing in there as it is also trying to mount from Server 3 (HP TRU64).

The file however on Server 3 (HP TRU64), does have the entry and it allows all hosts to connect to it.

I may need to check the Server 3 (HP TRU64) again to find out if only a limited connection is allowed.

Yes ... but I was speaking of something similar in the HP TRU64 server .. which is the one who exports the filesystems and who's entitled in granting rights

Hi

The /etc/exportfs file on Server 3 (HP TRU64)has the file system that I want to export and also the granting rights.

However in Server 1 (AIX) it is working but not on Server 2 (AIX).

I hope I making sense,

Aslam

Could you please post the contents of the /etc/exports file from server3 ?

Also, /etc/hosts files from all the free servers.

Thanks

Are this rights granted to everybody?
Are they granted also to AIX 2?
Could you post it?
Is AIX2 known to the HP Server?
Are there any firewall between AIX2 and HP?

Hi

Server 3 (HP TRU64) export file
*******
*
*
*******
/dump -access=192.168.0.202:192.168.0.232
------------------------------------------

HOST FILE : Server 1 (AIX)

very large : but has the following :
192.168.0.185 hpserver
192.168.0.202 aix1
192.168.0.232 aix2

HOST FILE : Server 2 (AIX)
very large : but has the following :
192.168.0.185 hpserver
192.168.0.202 aix1
192.168.0.232 aix2

HOST FILE : Server 3 (TRU 64)
only has the following :

192.168.0.185 hpserver
192.168.0.202 aix1
192.168.0.232 aix2

I can telnet to each server from each server, so each server can see each other.

The servers reside on a subnet deicated to them on a switch which is 100Mb.

Hi

ptf version ? , I'm not sure hat that is , can you elaborate please.

Aslam

By root, run
#oslevel -r
#inst fix -i | grep AIX5_ML

The latest Maintenance version for AIX 4.3.3 is 11(maybe the last version)
If your severs were not very important, using APPLY to put the Maintenance package, otherwise discuss it with your supporter.

Or, by root, run
#lslpp -l | grep bos.net.nfs
to make sure the version of nfs package are the same on both server.

Also,

I would try :

1.removing both directories from export on server3 and reexporing them again.

2.Try the following line in server3 exports file :
============
/dump
============

with nothing next to it.

Hi

I decided to reboot ( windows again ) the server 1 (AIX) and server 2 (AIX), after unmounting the /dump directory of server 1 (AIX).

After rebooting I successfully mounted /dump on server 2 (AIX) and then I was able to mount /dump on server 1(AIX).

Now it works but am completely confused as to why ?

using
lslpp -l | grep bos.net.nfs

Both servers are at the same level of patch release and versions. 4.2.1.0
