I have just got a new 160GB disk but when i install windows xp it will only recognise 130Gb of it. This isdue to not having the drivers for the ATA133 controller on the motherboard.

When i install the nforce drivers from nvidia the rest of the disk becomes available but I have to create it as a seperate partition.

What i need is the nforce driver txtsetup.oem file for an NVIDIA NForce 2(Tm) SPP/IGP ATA Controller like you would find on an MSI K7N2-L motherboard.

If anyone could point me in the right direction i would be most grateful.

Cheers

Why do you want one partition .
Best way to partitioning is to have the operating system
on one partition 10-20GB, installed programs on a second partition ,
and data/archives in a third partition.

correct me please, if I format the first partition and install win xpp from the beginning, how can I use the installed programs on a second partition (assumed that the programs have something with the register on the first partition) ?

Of course there will be some default microsoft programs
installed under C:\Program Files\..
After a Windows install , leave them alone .

Every programs you install later .
Use the custom installation and change the path.

Install to e.g
D:\Program Files\....

This avoids clogging up the system(Windows) partition.

a little misunderstanding. I have as you suggest c:\windows (win xpp, registry etc.) and d:\program files (office xp, delphi, etc.). so far so good: every think ok & work perfect.

I format c: and install win xpp from scratch. disk d: is intact !

how can I use my word on d: without installing office again? only some manually changes in register?

There is lots of registry keys made when installing programs.
Manually writing in them would be an impossible task.

For office there is a repair option that could take care
of it it you have faults in installation.

But somehow i don't think you have that option
as your install isn't registerd.

So i'm sorry to say an office reinstall might be needed.

ok & thx. reinstall is the best way.

You have reinstalled on a formatted C: so you start over with a fresh registry .
So reinstalling programs has to be done for all sw.

To preserve settings in cnf , dat files and others,
i usually copy the program folders first to another location.
And copies back over the new installed after .
Some programs trash the different settings and data files
when new installed.

Also check the for user settings files
\Program Files\Common Files
\Documents and Settings\"Username"\Application Data
\Documents and Settings\"Username"\Local Settings\Application Data

Hello Again

Sorry to get back to the point but does anyone actually know the answer to the first question. I realize that I could have many partitions one for each bit but I would like to have one large one. I have already lost 7gb of data by having 2 partitions and would like to reclaim that space if possible.

Cheers
