Hi

I have a disk which I have run the dd command on to copy the boot disk as a backup. I no longer need this and want to restore the disk for use (currently I can't mount this disk for obvious reason and I have retained the fstab entry). What is the best way to go about this, I have been looking at the newfs command (Solaris 8) but I just get an I/O error when testing the command (-N).

Anyone any ideas what I should do for the best as I am inexperienced in this?

Thanks

Phil.

What device are you using with newfs... Command should be
newfs -N /dev/rdsk/c#t#d#x#. Look in /dev/rdsk to see what disks the OS sees. If you only see one disk usually c0t0d0s0 - c0t0d0s7, you will need to run boot -r to see the other disk. Once that is done, you should be able to run the format command on that disk.

Solved this by repartitioning the disk,

Thanks

Phil.
