Dear all:
My company is trying to launch EDI with some of our trading partners. However, there are so many EDI software/services in the market. How do I judge which would be the best one for my company?

Currently my company is using MAS200. And we need EDI 850, 855, 856, and 810. Our trading partners are very specific electronic component distributors. Therefore, most of the EDI companies do not have them on the list (even though they are huge).

May I know what EDI software you are using?

I am narrowoing down to Kissinger and True Commerce. Can anyone of you share your 2 cents on both softwares with me?

Thank you alll very much. =)

The first thing you need to do is take a class on EDI. There are a number of online classes that will help you prepare for anwering the questions that must be asked about your business needs. Such as what is the platform that the EDI software will be running on. What software will be used to create data extracts, what software will be used to import data back into your system. How will these packages work together. If you are not EDI saavy consider using a freelance worker to work with you in setting this up. They have already gone down this road and will work along side of you to set this up. When the project is over you dont have to fire anyone. All the setup will be done hand in hand and you will know your system without relying on others. Check out webbset.com/bboard

Accounting Software <-> Mapper <-> Translator <-> VAN Some products have the Mapper and Translator in one piece. You might also need connectivity to other programs besides your Accounting package, especially if you are a manufacturer. You will want something that will be able to handle your business as it grows. Trying to replace a system when it has reached it's limit is not fun and can be costly. Save money where it makes sense (like running on fast Intel hardware and Linux).
You want an enterprise solution for an enterprise. Quality of the vendors support group is also very important. Does your solution have an easy disaster recovery solution? Can you debug problems without having to re-invent the wheel?

We use GXS' Application Integrator, connecting with Lexicom's CLEO software. When you buy AI, Enterprise, the price includes a 5 day class at the corporate offices to train you on how to use the software and a little bit of best business practices. I highly recommend this package. We have been using it for 2 1/2 years now. Before that, all of our translation was hand written programming on our mainframe. However, our conversion from a mainframe to a Windows Server environment demanded that we find a translator. In our opinion, this was the best out there and that is why we bought it. It is a little pricey, with software package and maintenace fees. Then, whatever VAN you use you will have mailbox fees as well.

I hope this helps you.
