Newbie question

I have 2 routes on my pix 501 that I would like to remove.

outside 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0 172.16.0.254 1 connect static
inside 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 10.1.1.6 1 connect static

When I do the no route outside 172.16.0.0 I get "route already exists"

Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong.

You can't remove connected routes without downing the interface their connected to.
 
I did the following
interface ethernet1 shutdown
interface ethernet0 shutdown

and then tried the no route command on those 2 interfaces and got the same response "route already exists"

Any more suggestions? thanks in advance.
 
If you put the ethernet1 to shutdown, it will remove the route from the routing table. The route command is for static routes, not connected routes.
 
at the risk of sounding ignorant, then how do I get rid of the static route? I have tried the no route to both interfaces with the interfaces both up and down and keep getting the response "route already exists". I am trying to eliminate these static routes. Thanks for your help.
 
A connected route isn't a static route. A static route is a route that appears in your configuration like this "route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 1.1.1.1".
