Hi all,

my scenario is:

legato networker 7.2
Powervault 132t lto2 (24 tapes)
48 tapes lto2 for backup
only one pool with all tapes

Retension policy and browsing policy are for 2 weeks

I would like rotation all tapes at the end the retention/browsing policy is it possible ?

1 to 14 days ----> tapes 1 to 24
15 to 28 days ----> tapes 25 to 48

In this method i have a set of tapes in the jukebox and the other set always available out of jukebox with the oldest backup.

is it correct backup planing ??

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

for doing this you need to setup 2 pools and 2 schedules and 2 groups where the client is in.

Then you can do it in that way.

Lable the Tape 1-24 for pool1 and 15-28 for pool2
assing pool 1 to group 1 with schedule for first 14 days and pool 2to group 2 with schedule for the other days

Hi,

as i wrote above...the day using which tape can be handled by using 2 pools.

So lable tape 1-24 for pool 1 and the rest to pool 2

Or do you asking where to klick to do this ?

Cheers Novelli

You could go for the simple solution or the intelligent solution: depending on your needs and the characteristics of the environment, you could for instance decide to recycle the tapes between the pools, which would reduce the wear on your tapes. There are a lot of possibilities with Legato.

Your configuration should also take into consideration the type and number of clients you need to backup, how you recycle your tapes, if you have bottlenecks in your environment, what type of availability/recovery and so fort is needed.

When you do not have any or very little experience with backup software, the learning curve for Legato can be a lot steeper. Some general knowledge about backup and the workings of Legato could help you a great deal. If you do not grasp the concepts, you could be struggling with the configuration a long time.

Please, take a course or read a book. Everyone can click a button, but not everybody should. I mean, it is possible to run your car into a wall, but it doesn't mean you should ?

The example was given already. Even the sometimes incomprehensible admin guide will direct you in the right direction.

Hint: customize your schedules ?!?
