Hi all you Siemens Guru's

A real newbie question here... We process REGEN files (Something that looks like the text below) in order to get a list of extensions for migration to a new platform, but I can't seem to find a simple set of instructions on how to get this out of the HiCom/HiPath - I have taken some time, but there seems to be a number of ways of doing it, and all that I've seen assumes a (pretty good) knowledge of the platform.

Assuming I have the username/password, and can access the system;

1. What software do I need (e.g. PuTTY etc.)
2. If the software isn't PuTTY, where can I download it.
3. What are the commands I need to run.
4. Where to get I get the results

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,
Get yourself setup on Giga Tribe first
faq965-7883
Downlad and install Comwin
Log on to HiPath

There are some macro files on the Giga Tribe also for to do a regen
but get that far and come back for more info

The Assistant is able to make a regen for you, look in Configuration Management under Hipath Inventory Management HIM.

Or you could install the Export Table Client which is under Utilities in the Assistant which will export the 4K config to CSV.

Indeed, yes the Assistant is another way of doing a REGEN - probably the easiest if you are not familiar with the Comwin interface.
Log on to the Assistant either via the Customer LAN or Atlantic LAN
Go to /Configuration Management/OpenScape/HiPath Inventory Management/RMX Backup
Click on 'Backup-initial' then OK
Then Click on 'Start RMX Database Backup'
It will change to 'RMX Backup Running (status is not auto-refreshed)
This will start the REGEN process in the background.
Wait about 10 minutes depending on the size of the system.
Then Refresh the page and you should see the 'Backup-initial' with a file with Creation Date and Size filled in and
Status should show 'successful'
Then you can click on the 'Backup-initial' and it will show the full REGEN file
CTRL-A and CTRL-C will copy it out and then open Notepad or similar and CTRL-V
That's your REGEN file.
It's only a snapshot - if changes are made tomorrow they obviously wont be in that file.

Cheers everyone! Much appreciated :)

Where can I download 'Assistant' ?

Cheers in advance,

Paul

The Assistant is the GUI running on its own IP address in the ADP processor. So you just https to it. But is that one of your regens in your post? A V3 4K? You’ll have trouble finding a modern PC with suitable web browser and java I think, you’ll have to get some old versions. Might be easier to use comwin after all. Although the rmx backup part won’t use java, if it’s there in the menu on V3…

Hi Moriendi,

No, it's not one of ours - the lab system is a 3000 series.

Thanks everyone for all the advice - very, very appreciated 👍

Cheers,

Paul

3000 series uses Manager E / Manager C software. You download the KDS file which is the database of the configuration.

KDS is in a propriatory format - We are trying to analyse customer systems to get an inventory.

We can process the REGEN files just fine, but we're trying to put together a crib sheet on how to get the those files out of the systems.

It depends on the version of HiPath - I keep an XP laptop (that I've upgrade with an SSD Drive)
With the correct Internet Explorer and Java Version just for Version 3.
I also keep Oracle MV Virtual Box with an XP Install in there for Version 3 and indeed other versions.

Hi all,

We have a 3350 with an IP address that the hipath manager can access and use to transfer data. We now also have a win xp machine, how do find out the "assistant"/web IP address so we can access that from a browser in win xp?

Cheers,

Paul

I think you are mixing up your telephone systems. A regen file like you posted above is from a Hicom 300/Hipath 4000/Openscape 4000. A 3350 is a Hipath 3000, which does not produce regen files. Hipath 3000 uses Manager E, a GUI based config app.

Hi Moriendi,

God I love how Siemens/Unify renamed all the platforms just to make it totally confusing 🤦‍♂️

It reports as a HiCom-150 in the LastLoad text file.

I don't suppose anyone has a list of the old names / variants and what they are called now?

e.g. HiCom 150 -> 3350, iSDX -> Realitis -> HiPath DX etc?

Cheers,

Paul
