Can anyone give me a hand with a problem,

If I boot my 132 B-Class with etc/hosts it doesn't fail the NFS client subsystem and I can log in.

If I boot using my DNS config then NFS client fails and I can't log in.

I've used 2nd Edition DNS/BIND for the config and IP works OK and followed the troubleshooting. I've got the machine configured for local caching.

If possible, can you give me a list of things to try please.

If there's anymore information I can give, let me know.

Regards,

James

Hi,
This problem is very common in the DNS setup in HP-UX . Check out the domain name first. Give Entries in the /etc/resolv.conf file. But mke sure to give the correct arguments like first it should look in to DNS then to NIS (If you are using that) Then to /etc/Host. Both the DNS and NIS domain name should match. It is best that you should have a DNS server in your Network. It can be a Secondery DNS server also .When you use DNS ,your system is not able to see the etc/hosts file .That is the reason it makes NFS fail. The Easiest way to reslove this is using SAM .In that go to networking and communications >name service switch> there you can specify the first source for name resolution then second then third .Other wise as I mentioned earlier in the /etc/resolv.conf file. I hope this will solve your problem .

Thanks for your information ph7360,

I hope this information fixes the problem too.

I'll try this over the next couple of days and let you know.

I knew about the nsswitch so the problems likely to be with resolv.conf.

Thanks again.
