We currently use a 3com OfficeConnect 25 (they had it before I started working here). Anyways, we hit the 25 user limit so it's time for an upgrade.

I was looking at the Cisco PIX 501. Any other suggestions?

Also is the Cisco PIX all command line/telnet based? Or does it have a web browser interface to configure as well? I have never used any Cisco PIX/hardware before and am not too familiar with all those line entries.

How well does the VPN work? 3com's client was horrible and slow.

THANK YOU!

Make sure you get an adequate license. If you need that many users it might be better to jump to a 506.

I use the VPN client and it's ok. Not slow that I notice.

There's a web interface for almost all tasks, including VPN setup. And there's telnet/ssh for the rest.

I saw a 501 with unlimited users....but would it still be better to go with a 506 performance-wise? Looking at about 30 users with 6 VPN (2 remote smaller officers) connecting in. Possible up to 45 users total by late next year.

Oh ok thanks, that's what I was looking for. A web-interface just to get things going. I could always read up on the advanced commands via telnet/ssh down the road.

Thanks again for the info!

The 506E should be around $200 more than the 501 unrestricted. For that you get more memory, faster processor, more VPN connections (25). Might be worth it for future use.

The base model for the pix 501 includes 10 user license. The next level is the 50 user level (don't forget each server that's connected to the pix counts as one connection)...

Thank you everyone for the info...you've been a great help!
