We have just inherited a Nortel phone system with zero documentation. I have managed to configure pretty much everything we've needed based on googling for Nortel norstar/meridian programming codes, etc.

However (now don't laugh) I still have no idea what the system is that we have. It uses a Norstar 180 voicemail server, T-series phones (a T7316 and a bunch of T7208's), and has a big box simply labelled "Central Control Unit".

Can anybody hazzard a guess as to what system model this is? And therefore, what documentation I should be downloading from the nortelnetworks site?

By what you have posted I would have to say a Norstar. More then likely an 0X32(big gray box). Easiest way to tell is if you use F**CONFIG to program this is a norstar. Any opt will have a TTY and require LOGI and password.

a merridian set is a 2000 or 3000 series. 7000 is norstar key system..

Yes, I used **CONFIG for configuration. The system itself consists of one big grey norstar box (about 10"x18"x6"), wired into a standard grey BT box, and this in turn is wired into a 24 port RJ45 patch board.

What would the official model name be for this Norstar system? Would it be something like the Nortel Norstar Modular/Compact ICS?

it sounds like an ics, the 8 by 24 would have been flater

If you power off the main unit the system type should be ob the PCMIA card in the cabinet. You may need to remove the card to see for sure what you have.

Thanks for the info guys... I'm close enough to the right model to find the documentation I need.

(AceWarlock: sorry for being in the wrong forum, but as you can see from my initial message i didn't know whether we had a Norstar or a Meridian when I started the thread)

I had installed the Norstar T7316 5 units. They seem to be working fine. I am havil a hard time to configure the speaker in handsfree mode and do group conferencing. Please help.
Thanks,
Anil John.

Go to the Norstar forum T7316, this is the PBX Forum. You'll get more help there.

this almost sounds more like a Nortel BCM than a norstar. Is this a rack-mountable unit? If so, it's a BCM
