I have a file made with quarkxpress 5.0 and I want to export that file into PDF format.I tried to follow the File>Export>File as PDF...It didn't work. The error message I get something like "A post scrip printer must be set of to print to a file".I installed a postscript printer HP and i get the same message.I use Quarkxpress 5.
Wich is the way to transform a quarkxpress file into PDF?
If someone could help me I will be very grateful.

If your using a powermac...

From Apple's Help Menu:

Adding a "virtual" PostScript printer

When you save a document as a PostScript file, you must choose a PostScript printer in the Print dialog. If you don't have an actual PostScript printer available, you can add a "virtual" one.

Open Print Center and choose Add Printer from the Printers menu, then choose IP Printing from the pop-up menu.

Type "localhost" (without quotation marks) in the Printer's Address text box. To give the printer a name that's easier to recognize, deselect the "Use default queue on Server" checkbox and type a name in the Queue Name text box.

Choose the item appropriate for your printer from the Printer Model pop-up menu, then select your printer in the Model list. Select a printer with features you want to use when creating PostScript files.

Click Add.

When you save a document as a PostScript file, choose "localhost" from the Printer pop-up menu in the Print dialog.

Assuming that you have Acrobat Distiller installed...

In the save dialog box, click on the Options button in the lower right corner. On the Output tab, make sure that you have a PostScript printer selected in the Printer Description box.

Ideally, it should say 'Acrobat Distiller'. You might also have a virtual postscript printer that you downloaded for free from adobe.com.

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

Skinlab,

From the error message, it sounds as though you do not have a post script printer installed. If this is true you will never be able to generate a pdf straight from quark, even if you install distiller and use that printing option.

Instead you must save the page as an eps file (file menu), then open Acrobat and use Distiller to make a PDF from the new eps file.
