Ok, this is now going on a 4 month problem...and I would love for someone to help me with this problem. I have Windows 98. Background...I had IE 5.5...don't remember when or how..but at some point new Windows would not open in IE. For instance, when I click on the calendar in Orbitz.com...nothing happens. On bank sites, such as bank one. when I try to pull up a credit card application for instance...nothing happens. On yahoo games, when I click on a gaming room...nothing happens. I went up to 6.0..but then had the same problem and took stupid advice and went back down to 5.5. Lately, I've been on another expert website and took the following advice:

Everything I've seen posted here, and much of what I've read elsewhere, suggests the problem is related to Java Virtual Machine . Here's what I'd recommend:

1. Reinstall IE 6
2. Install all Critical Updates related to IE 6 from the Windows Update site (Tools -> Windows Update
3. Install Version 1173 of mshtml.dll from Microsoft:
4. Install the newest version of MS JVM (Version 3809):
5. Verify that you have the latest version of IE 6 with 128-bit encryption (Help -> About Internet Explorer).
6. Flush the Cookies and Files caches (Tools -> Internet Options -> General)

I've done this..yet I'm still having the same problem....I've tried everything under the sun. Does anyone have any idea?????

When you say you try to open the site, nothing happens, do you mean you get a blank window?? If so run the following which is from Microsoft website:
Go to Start/run - type "regsvr32 Urlmon.dl" and press OK. Should get acknowledgement - retry your entry.

If you are having problems where login areas don't display and you know they are running Java applets, you may have a Virtual Machine issue. Check under Internet Explorer
Tools
INternet Options
Advanced
Check for an entry near the Microsoft VM settings and look for a "Sun Virtual Machine" entry and if checked - uncheck it.
Close your brower and retry.
