I have just added a 95 machine to the furthest port from the switch on a subnet of our network. The PC will not find our PDC and logon unless I assign a static IP address. Once logged on I can only see PC's which are this side of the fibre link to the BDC. We are using a 3Com 3300SM switch with gigabit fibre link. I have checked the distance rules and everything is in order. The PC and it's account are fine within other subnets and all other PC's on subnet in question are seeing the entire domain. Any ideas?

TIA

Not a networky guru but sounds to me like either your 3Com switch is not routing stuff to where it should be or your default gateway on your machine is configured wrong. "My mamma used to say that life is like a box of chocolates .... you never know what you're gonna get!"

The switch and fibre link has only recently been installed and as such there are approximately 10 new users on this subnet. Once the switch was setup people could logon without any problems.
This problem initially shows its self as a hang during the logon process and then the "MPREXE not responding" in task manager. The problem appears to be intermitent which is always a bad sign.
I added an extra 256Mb of RAM to the server which had previously been coping with 64Mb. I then added 2 values for maxclient and maxlogon to the registry key... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters. 1024 and 4 times that figure 4096 which I got from the TechNet.
This made no difference so I removed the new values and changed the LMANNOUNCE value from 0 to 1 which seemed to work, people were logging on again. But the new 95 box could still only see upto the server. Past the switch but not past the router. The only thing I can think of, is that the new addition to this subnet has pushed something over the edge and is causing the logon failures. In case you haven't read my Biog, I'm new to this level of networking and am reading as fast as I can.

Please help if you can.
