The switch and fibre link has only recently been installed and as such there are approximately 10 new users on this subnet. Once the switch was setup people could logon without any problems.
This problem initially shows its self as a hang during the logon process and then the "MPREXE not responding" in task manager. The problem appears to be intermitent which is always a bad sign.
I added an extra 256Mb of RAM to the server which had previously been coping with 64Mb. I then added 2 values for maxclient and maxlogon to the registry key... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters. 1024 and 4 times that figure 4096 which I got from the TechNet.
This made no difference so I removed the new values and changed the LMANNOUNCE value from 0 to 1 which seemed to work, people were logging on again. But the new 95 box could still only see upto the server. Past the switch but not past the router. The only thing I can think of, is that the new addition to this subnet has pushed something over the edge and is causing the logon failures. In case you haven't read my Biog, I'm new to this level of networking and am reading as fast as I can.
Please help if you can.
