You may want to look at Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus System at

It’s a free AV program that works better for me than Norton.

They added an update for SoBig on 01/10/03.

The answer is YES, you can use both at the same time quite safely. That's exactly what I use, along with Spybot on an infrequent basis. Regards
