I am new to the universe building and as400 and have some questions about connections.

1. I tried to create a connection straight to as400. I could only bring in what i think is called the physical db. I also need what i think is called the logical db. I read that it should allow both physical and logical. how do I do that?

2. Since I couldnt get #1 above to work, I tried creating a connection using the existing odbc connection that I made to the as400. I am only given the menu option Derived Tables. When I write the sql statement select * from tablea and then check syntax, I get the error message "The server is not responding (unv0018). however, if I test the actual connection in Tools --> connections it says "The Server is responding."

Can anyone help me with these questions?

Thanks.

Hi Giggles,
Sorry I have no answer to your question....I actually have one for you.

I am also new to using Crystal to access AS/400 data. I am using Crystal 10. I cannot figure out how to add the AS/400 is my datasource selection list. Can you give me any pointers? I cannot figure out where my 'data' resides so Crystal can see it.

Firstly we have IBM AS400 Client Access Express V5.1 installed and in that a connection created to the AS400
Secondly, In settings control panel etc.
Create an ODBC link
Driver should be Client Access Express ODBC
Select the AS400 System on the general tab
Change the library list on the server tab to point to the default library for the data and then add more if necessary for multiple libraries
On the advanded tab change to commit immediate (none)
On the packages tab tick enable extended package support

Then try again

You can have more than one ODBC configured to point to different libraries on the AS400
