The temp directory open the job setup and goto the selections and switch to text view. Then remove the directory.
The mailboxes - they are users that probably have been deleted or disabled in active directory but not in exchange. So you need to remove them from the selection or purge them from exchange

As stevot mentions, the users are likely disabled or deleted in/from the AD.

Being new, you may find it easier to work with the standard graphical view and then navigate through there as you would in any other directory.

Go to the Job Setup tab, right click, select Properties.

On the left there are options, select the one called "Selections"

Expand C: and navigate to the 'Newgrove Tech' directory and uncheck it. If this does exist and needs to be backed up, make sure it is not hidden.

Then expand 'Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes' and uncheck the users causing the problem.

Check in the AD to see if they are still there, if not then they can be purged from exchange as suggested, or left - as long as they are not included in the Veritas selections your backups won't fail.

If you notice the job will still have backed up like 99.99% of your data, dispite being marked as failed, so in that respect you don't need to worry.

Hope this helps

have done what you both said and ran a test which went through fine will wait to see tomorrow if all comes back completed

once again many thanks

this is the only problem with starting out working for your local council and being the only IT support person on site, but then again its the best way to learn

I am/was in the exact same position - I work for an insurance brokers, no in house IT until I came (I am a placement student!)

So I had to learn all the systems from scratch and it's a great way to learn!

Veritas is pretty easy to pick up and once you know the basics it's very easy to use!

I reccommend that you print the selections list out so that in the event that you need to reinstall Veritas for whatever reason, you have exactly what you need straight away, instead of wasting time trudging through potential selections!

On the test front - I think that just tests that it will "theroretically work" in some cases - because I have had tests in the past that have been successful but the actual backup has failed - so don't take it as absolute gospel.

Like I say though, when they "fail" for that reason you still do have the rest of the data backed up.

I am a new Veritas back up v.10 user and I'm so confused. We use Seagate with a travan tape system. The scheduled back up is only recognizing one of the two tapes we use. I keep trying the media label, etc. but have not been successful. In layman's terms, can someone explain the process to me? Thanks so much!
