Hi, im pretty new to using vb script and only stumbled across it purely when trying to convert csv to fixed width data.

I was a proficient user with GW and Q basic back in the 80s/early 90s, but when VB came along I just couldn't come to terms with the concept and so left it alone.

Anyway, I mainly deal with transforming data, predictions etc, and do this usually via many batch files and small utilities, but having adapted a couple of vbscripts I found on the net, I now realise this is the way to go for future projects.

What im really after is an idea of a good book which anyone could suggest to get me more into scripting, function syntax etc, im fine understanding functions, parameters, formulas etc, it's more the general syntax. So if anyone could suggest a good read/beginners book it would be much appreciated

Thanks for reading
Andy

It's been a while, but I remember O'Reilly's VBScript in a Nutshell being pretty good. And of course there are tons of reference sites on the web

guitarzan, interestingly, I sourced a 2nd hand copy of O'Reillys on ebay a couple of days ago because it was cheap! So thanks for the suggestion. Web based I find OK for the odd query, but I prefer to refer to a book, jot notes on the side of the pages (bad habit) and test

Geates, yes VB syntax is virtually identical to QB, just couldn't get my head around the gui part. Perhaps I should just focus on console

Many thanks
Andy

No I meant VB Script, notepad etc.

Sorry I read your VBS as VB, my mistake
