I know nothing about SQL and have just been asked to install reporting services on our database server.

I actually confirmed that SQL Reporting services was installed already -- SQL 2000

However, the user is now requesting reporting services for his version 2005.

Needless to say - I am nervous. I do not have a test server and the one SQL server is our main database. I have "How to: Install Reporting Services Side-by-Side with an Earlier Version" documentation but am leary of messing with a program I know nothing about on our main production server.

Am I being over cautious - it is actually alot simpler than I think?

Remember - our production server runs SQL 2000 and I am to ad Reporting services 2005 to run along side SQL 2000 and Reporting Services 2005.

Any thoughts, suggestions and/or recommendations?

Thanks

If you aren't farmiler with SQL then I would recommend against doing the install. If the user needs SQL 2005 Reporting Services that badly have them request a new server to run the Reporting Services 2005 system. If something were to go hinky during the install you may end up having shot your self in the foot if you do the install.

yes - that is the link I would be using if I tried to go forward with this, however I did manage to talk them out of it.

The developer adjusted his reports and everything is working well in SQL 2000 reporting services.

Thanks for inquiring
