I have just bought Lammle's study guide hoping just to learn the book and to pass my exam. I have 4 years networking experience but nothing on routers.
What is my changes of succeeding or am i just taking too much of a risk.I from outside the USA and is the exam very expensive due to the exchange rate.

With 4 years of networking, you should have the basics of IP addressing, packet transfer and even the fuzziest idea of routing in place from things like NT and Unix.

If true, then you should not have a problem with the CCNA, just make sure you get rack time or get access to a virtual rack with at least 2 routers to practice the various configs. You need to know subnetting well, basic IP theory, basic IPX, basic APpletalk(it's on the test) and Frame Relay. There is more info on switches now days so get some time on the 1900/2900 series. I dont remember any SET based questions on my exam but it would not hurt just to play on a Cat5000, 4000, 2901 that uses the SET IOS.

Cisco Press CCNA has alot of material not available in Lammle's study guide. I have been researching this for a while now and I understand the Exam more closely resembles Cisco Press CCNA Text. Additionally, It is very important to get configuration experence. You can buy a Simulator that is intended for CCNP and covers all four CCNP exam qualifications and therefore you can also use it for CCNA.

I to am preparing for CCNA and have found this to be the best route to take. I will go on to CCNP so it is worth the expense as I don't have access to a Router or two or three ... Donald H. Heritage
