Hello forum.
I'm trying to add secondary T1 line to the system.
What is the best way to add it.

Thanks,
Yuri

Just insert it into the second trunk slot in KSU. Lines 25-48. Program it up. If that slot is already occupied with a LS trunk cart, move the LS cart out to a trunk module if you still need it.
You didn't mention much about your system. Will you be running PRI?
Let us know if you need more detailed information.

It is Nortel Norstar.
The line that I'm trying to connect is the dedicated T1.

When I go to Hardware.CardsOnKSU section the card that line is connected to is showing as PRI.
When I try to change the setting to T1 it gives me "Disable card" message.

What should I do?

Thanks, Yuri

Be careful here. You said that you are adding a second T-1.
The first original one should be (usually)in the right-most slot of the KSU. If it is working properly, don't make any changes to it. Sounds like it is running PRI. Will not your 2nd DTI also be PRI?????
Just be sure that the DTI you are programming is your new card. People get confused here because of the right-to-left card slots in KSU and left-to-right slots in trunk modules.

Absolutely sure.
I just went to Maintenance section and disconnected the KSU(2). Then I went to Hardware and changed the setting for 2 card to be T1. And then I connected the KSU(2) again.

Now I will have to assign the T1 to pool B. How do I do this?

Thanks,
Yuri.

Are you just adding more capacity to your existing T-1?
I just want to be absolutely sure how the new T-1 is going to be used so that I don't give you the wrong information.
Is your routing already set up?
If so, just go to lines, select line 025, LINE TYPE, hit change until you see Pool B. Then hit Show until you see the COPY soft key. Hit copy, and copy to lines 026 thru 048.
My one concern is that you said your first T-1 was set as PRI. I would feel a bit more comfortable if I knew a bit more about your system and your overall goal here.
Is the new circuit up. Green lights?

Marv01,

Thanks for teh inof so far.

More details are as follow:

the 1st line I have in IS a PRI --->
I am tryng to creat two seperate pools now (one for thr PIR [local calls] one for the T1 [LD calls]) ---->
My problem is that I cannot assign pool B to teh T1 line (is that what I should do?) --->
I tried your suggestions above, but I did not have the option of changing the line type to 'Pool B' only 'Public'->

Any suggestions?

We have following setup:
Initally there was PRI line that now serves all the business users.
Now we want to connect the secondary dedicated T1 line to serve the long distance calls.

Given this setup what is most optimal approach to connect and use dedicated T1 line.

Thanks for help,
Yuri.

You need to set up your routing so that depending on digits dialed, the system will automatically select the proper outbound route to take. Be careful to make sure your 911 or any other emergency calls route properly.
Are you sure that your second T-1 is not PRI?

100% sure.

The only thing I still not clear on is when I set the second card to be of T1 type. Does system automatically assign it to pool B or I have to do this?
If it should be done manually - how it is done.... I didn't find any answers in Norstar documentation.

Thanks,
Yuri.

Like MarvO said, "just go to lines, select line 025, LINE TYPE, hit change until you see Pool B." It will show up. then hit the Header button until you see the Copy button on the second line. Then copy the settings to 026-048.

That puts it in the seperate line pool. Then use the following instructions to make your LD calls go over line pool B.

This is what your dialing plan would look like.

Route 001 – Use PRI-A (local) – Dial out: No number
Route 002 – Use Pool B (long distance) - Dial out: No number

* = ANY

Dest code 91 * uses route 002 which uses Pool B for LD calls.
Absorb length: All

Dest codes for local calls:
Absorb length: All
92 *
93*
94 *
95 *
96 *
97 * uses route 001 which uses Pool PRI-A
98 *
99 *

91866
91877
