we have a new subdomain website - blogs.domain.com. this subdomain is being hosted externally. we had to request that the company that manages our dns records add ns records for this new subdomain that would point to the site that is hosting our new subdomain. so our new subdomain works externally fine but we can't access it internal. what do we need to do?

thanks!

well thats the problem, we tried creating an a record and a cname record pointing to the ip addresses the hosting company provided, but it hasn't work so wasn't sure what we are doing wrong.

Can you access the site via its IP address?
If yes, what happens when you do an nslookup on the domain? That will tell you what your default DNS thinks the name belongs to. If it is incorrect, you may want to try flushing your DNS cache, especially if it had a long time to live value.

This is what we were told to do which we forwarded to the company that manages our external dns records:

It looks like what we want is for them to add NS records for
blogs.company.org

This would be two NS records, pointing to:

ns1.company.net xx.xxx.xxx.xx
ns2.company.net xx.xxx.xxx.xx

Then the primary domain (company.org) will continue to resolve with the settings your service privider has set, but the blogs subdomain will resolve to the blog host's services.

I don't know that these ips are the actually ips to the site. When i added the a record & cname record i used one of the ips listed above and it couldn't connect to them via http. i can ping them and get replies. i don't know if that helps at all. can you tell i really don't know what i'm doing?

well we figured out we needed to set up a new delegation in our dns, not an a or cname record. thanks for your help!
