Hi Everyone,

I am nearly done with this new site I am writing and I would really appreciate some feedback from you guys.

It is a photography website and I've temporarily located it at
I don't offend easily so be brutal.

For info, there is a slight problem with the menu appearing left aligned in IE when it should be right-aligned - appears correctly in FF. I am about to ask for help about this in the HTML/CSS forum

Some stunning photogrpahy there - which generally makes for a good site.

I think the only think I would wonder at would be why you are using h3 elements inside each of your navigation li elements - I would say ditch them and just style the li elements themselves. It just doesn't look right with styles off using h3s, IMHO.

Yeah - I like that you ahve made the photography the main focus and kept the design minimalistic - one thing at 1024x768 it does not quite fit - for some reason I have a horizontal scroll even though horizontally it fits graphically... also seem like you could shrink it vertically so that it does fit on the home page and gallery pages and such...

Thanks for taking a look - I didn't notice the scrolling issue, that has suddenly appeared after I got help sorting out the menu alignment in IE yesterday. It doesn't scroll in FF - dont you just love IE!!

I will post back in the HTML forum about that one if I can't figure it out.

I would suggest to stick to just one font for headlines. It would look more professional. You could drop the opacity for the text "photography" but use the same font. Otherwise good job.

Yeah, not much to take issue with here. It looks clean, modern, and a good platform to show off the photographs.

I agree with comments already made about the <h3>s in the menu. More serious, in my view, is what happens to the menu if you switch Javascript off - it still works, but it's confusing to figure out what goes with what. Frankly, I'd consider ditching all the drop-down stuff and rely on the normal links within the pages - it's hardly a huge site after all.

The black borders around the pictures are a little harsh in some cases - consider using grey instead.

The site jumps slightly to the right, compared to the other pages, when viewing the Commercial and Contact pages (on my PC in FF). Dunno why.

You should probably include a postal address on the contact page.

Don't forget to fill in Simon & Kim's comment on the "About" page!

Hi

Probably is just me, but I can not understand the point with the 3 images on the right side. They look exactly the same as the images in 3x3 galleries, but no functionality. I clicked them like dumb.

Maybe considering Chris idea regarding a grey border, you could give them a somehow distinct look.

( Just to sustain my point of view : Links Want To Be Links. )

Feherke.

wow - loads of comments - thanks guys.

I did add a grey borer to the images as it happens although the client decided that black would be better - who am I to argue!?!?

I have also noticed the jumping to the right - i get this in FF when going to pages that scroll as FF doesnt show the inactive scrollbar whereas IE does. Anyone know how to stop this from happening?

Postal address used to be on there but was removed at the client's request as they run the business from their home (it is a new business).

Yeah - I noticed the menu issue with JS turned off - I am looking into making that look better.

The logo at the top is set in stone now so I wont be able to change that. The client and his graphic designer friend are happy with it and I actually like it - the mixture of fonts is not excessive throughout the site (just the word photography in the logo and in the footer graphic)

The 3 images on the right are just to break the text up and to add a consistent design element to each page. Does anyone else feel that they are intuitive links and confusing?

Once again - thanks so much for your comments guys - much appreciated.

I actually rewroite most of your stylesheet friday when I first saw your post in the HTML/CSS forum....unfort7unatly i then Ctrl-Z'd back a ways and dumped it. Anyways, you could replace most (if not all) of the javascript menu files with something based on the Suckerfish menu system. You would still need a small piece of JS for IE hovering, but I know for a fact I had it working yesterday :p
Check out the dropdown articles at AListApart.com. The CSS for a dropdown menu (with a few lines of javascript) should be more than adequate for your needs. I think mine was a little longer because I made some corrections/additions to those scripts to make infinite multi-level menus for vertical or horizantal layout.
