Ever since I installed the newest security patch from MS, I cannot access certain sites that I could before the patch. Like I can't access my university library loan system. And I can access this from other computers. What can I do to fix this? Thanks.

You can uninstall the patch through Add/Remove Programs (you have to look it up on microsoft.com and find the KB # that goes with the patch to make sure you uninstall the right one) and then see if you can access these sites.

If you can access the sites again, you then may need to contact Microsoft and tell them that the patch broke items on your PC.

Hope this helps,

Erik

what message do you get when going to these sites ?

Laters, phat, headshape

The message says - The page cannot be displayed. I don't know which patch it is, I didn't look when I downloaded - it was the latest, where can I look up the name of the patch?

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs make sure the Show Updates option (at the top) is checked. Then scroll down to Windows XP - Software Updates listing & search for the most recently dated update(s). Make note of the "KBXXXXXX" number & check it out on the MS site. When you decide which update may be the offending one, highlight it & click Remove. Reboot & check if the problem is resolved.

If multiple updates were installed on the same date, you may have to repeat the above until you find the offending one. Make note of the KB number when you do, so that you can block it from being re-installed.

[Cheers]

The last two patches I installed were -

WindowsXP-KB912919-x86-ENU.exe
WindowsXP-KB908519-x86-ENU.exe

Perhaps it was one of these.

System Restore is another way of removing patches.

Before you remove security patches you should work through the check lists in these articles and try the suggestions, especially cleaning Temp files and Temporary Internet files.
