Hi All,

(Background caveat: I inherited an Avaya system I know nothing about; I muddle through where I can and I'm happy to read and do my own homework. I hire out when I have to, but need to learn this stuff for the day-to-day jobs.)

(System: IPO R7, IPO Manager 9.0(36))
We had a couple new phone drops installed in some new offices; they're wired into our patch panel. The trouble is that I don't know how to make them go live on the system. We have extra phone jacks on the control unit, but simply patching from the panel to the control unit doesn't activate the lines.

I know this is basic stuff, but I don't know where to begin reading to figure this out. Can someone point me to a couple specific resources (books, web, whatever) that will get me on my feet? I've searched myself, but I don't yet know the Avaya jargon I need to focus my searches more intelligently.

Thanks!

Derek,

First lesson about IP office: The first 6 or 8 ports (1-6 or 1-8) on a card are different from the last 4 (ports 9-12).

Ports 9-12 are only functional if there's a "daughter" card installed.

If your BP did a proper install, you will see on the front of your cards a sticker on the lower left, and then either a sticker or a place for a sticker on the lower right. The sticker would say something like "DS 1-8 (7001212)", "ATM4U 9-12 (700412345)", etc.

These stickers correspond to what's on the physical ports.

Alternatively, if you go in to System Monitor and choose "reconnect", you will see a graphic of what's installed in your system. Feel free to post that back to this forum.
