I've heard a rumor that Peachtree is coming out with a new data format this year. Anybody hear anything?

I have heard that they are going to abandon Btrieve 6.15x in favor of pervasive SQL v9. No idea how true it is. This should be interesting if it happens as most users go buy Peachtree for a few hundred $ at Staples or Office Depot, and Pervasive SQL v9 would be about $2k at a minimum.

If they have a runtime that would mean better acces with products like FoxPro. Probably a lot better volumn handling, too.

I write custom FoxPro apps for Timberline construction accounting which is based upon the Pervasive engine. A Pervasive runtime is bundled with Timberline as are the ODBC drivers. One problem we have encountered is that the Pervasive DB, as configured by Timberline, is read-only.

Interesting. I wrote a plumbing and service business product called Socal in VFP 6. I've always thought it was as good as Timberline. I'm thinking of trying to sell it again at a price of $99 for a single user system again.

Bill perhaps you can advise Timberline on how to properly write their apps. I'm tired of hearing "Yeah, that update we sent you, don't do it." They must put out more new versions than any other accounting application I've seen in the past 5 years. Be nice if they shared their internal advisiories the Timberline consultants get with the public too. I had a bug that I advised them about that phone support swore was not a bug, but something to troubleshoot, consultant shows up next day, says "Yeah I got an e-mail about that bug already." Sorry for being off topic, but had to get off my Timberline rant.

Please always take the time to backup important data and verify that backup, before making any changes suggested.

One of these days I'll have to send you a copy of my program.

Bill Couture

Please do. I saw your web page, accountants tend to write better softwares, and they understand them better too.
