I would like to get a new PC. My only concern is to reinstall all the software, drivers, etc.. on the new PC.
If installing my files would be easy, the softwares themselves would be a nightmare.
Is the a software, cable or other that will allow me to copy all from one machine to the new one?

You can get a crossover LAN cable and run it from one pc to another via the LAN ports. If its direct from one pc to another it "MUST" be crossover and not a patch cable.
Make each C drive as shareable and assign each pc an IP address, ie, 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 and assign them to use the same workgroup. Or let XP do it all for you.
You can also get a USB cable but this will probably be slower than LAN.
Ram pen/stick USB drives are also a possibility for moving files from one pc to another.

Remember though, copying a program from one pc to another is different than installing it. Simply copying won't make the correct registry entries.
If you have all the original disks for your programs, you're far better off reinstalling.

ITA23 - depending on your version of windows (if its pre-XP, you can, if its XP and its retail version you can, if OEM XP, you can't - but if you've got a new version of XP with new PC, when you do the repair mentioned below, use new install CD & key) you could clone your existing drive to drive in new PC. You would probably need to run a repair reinstall afterwards:-

This would give you basically same setup as now.

Best way to clone is to slave old drive in new machine & use the free software that new drive manufacturer provides free on their website. Remove old drive before trying to boot new.

Thanks,
I wish it was a better way- But at the end I guess i will have to get my stack of original software and spend a few days to reinstall all.

You can also take the hard drive out of the old machine and put it in the new machine as a slave drive and copy the files to the new machine. Or get a USB drive box and put the drive in it to copy the files you need.

TTA23 - so cloning and repairing not option then? Depending on the data, should take 1-2 hours. You've not mentioned o/s, licences or anything like that.

Helps to have the driver disk for the motherboard with the chipset drivers on it. Also you might have to update your version of Direct X, and then download new video card/sound card drivers.
