New Norstar cics installation

I have purchased a new Norstar CICS phone system for my company. This is due to be installed early next week. Does anyone have any helpful tips for a smooth installation with minimal down-time? Are the installation instructions that come with the system straight forward? Are there any areas to proceed in with caution?
 
Pretty straight foward system and easy to install. I have this system as well and have installed a few for others. Have installer programm stations before cutting the system over to lessen down time. I have this system in my house so that was not an issue for me.

I can’t tell from your post if you are planning on trying to install this yourself or not. If you are, then plan on being down indefinitely. The instructions are no meant for end-users.

If you want minimal down time, get a with a qualified Nortel vendor. Have them do a pre-install site survey to check your cabling. Then they should ask you exactly how you want the system to work, so they know in advance what you want it to do, what lines go where, voice mail parameters if applicable, etc, etc...
 
If you install yourself and have a few POTS lines and you are prepared to accept the default setup the system will come up and run immediately. If you are looking to customize the system in any way, I quote brike "If you want minimal down time, get a with a qualified Nortel vendor."

I do have a technician scheduled to do the install. I was just curious what the level of unexpected issues come with this system - hopefully minimal. The technician has performed an initial review of the office, wiring, etc. He indicated a 2-hour install time at $60/hour. Is this accurate?
 
Two hours is for a prewired location, no voice mail, pots liness, and no training, with very few sets.
Up to four hours and or a return trip if you discover features you need to add.
The Norstar itself will give you no issues as it will run as programmed but probably won't last more than ten to twelve years without service.

I suggest two hours isn't enough time to do it right. Depending on your environment, needs and usual variables. I agree with NARSBARS, two hours = no frills and mostly default.
 
I spent nearly 8 hours on Wednesday doing a "simple install". Client indicated everything was pre-wired. All I had to do was show up, hang his (previously installed/programmed) system and cross-connect.

The "pre-wiring" was a daisy chain and the system had been previously installed and programmed...but nothing was labeled and system had 2 digit DN's...

Oh...and he forgot to mention the CallPilot with the unknown password/IP address...
 
Hi, I have inherited a CICS and I want to install it myself. I'll be doing the entire office in a couple of weeks. Its a small office about 6 DNs, 3 pots and fax/dsl line. I'm also gonna redo the data cabling in the same run... Data is my field, however I have done a little work with Norstar systems before.

My problem is I have no idea how to wire the system... I have ordered the 25-pair cables and a 100-pair 110 punch block but I need the pin out for the 25-pair connectors...

Can anyone help me?

I agree, it's all in the wiring, if it is set up, cut over is as quick as punching the reception (221) and your lines, and you can start answering calls, then you can start bringing people on the system and setting up VM.

You need to find a cd or google a copy of the installation manual.
First simply install all amphenols and punch them down according to color code.
