I just got a new MICS 6.0 system and a Fast Rad to program it with. I have the rad hooked to a Digital port on the system and hooked to com1 on my computer. I have selected Direct Connect. Does the Rad have a password? I enter nothing for the password and hit connect. Intializing COM port 1, then tells me RAD did not respond. If anyone can offer any help I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Chris Jackson

Do feature 9** from a phone if it asks you for a pswd then it has one. If it doesn't I believe you may have to put one in. I always assign a pwsd when I install them. I'm think it has to be a min. of 8 or 9 characters.

Also make sure that is com1 on your pc that your connected to.

Yes, set a password, and go into the RAD setup, hit the DATA softkey, and set the baud rate that you are going to use for your local connection. Make sure you use the same baud rate for your com port 1, or you will not connect. that is the number 1 cause of not connecting.

It ask me for a password which I do not know? This unit should be new. Is there a default password?

you'll need to do a debug on the RAD, check out faq799-1997. That should work for you, if it doesn't let me know and I can give you a similar procedure that I have used.

good luck.

When you F9** the display will say password and a change button will pop up on your display hit the change button and enter a 10 digit password that is easy to remember, the display will then prompt you to reenter the password again enter the password and press OK, then hit next, Data, next till you get to baud rate and change it too 19200.

The rad will not work without a password.

If the display does not say change let me know..

Thanks for all of your help. From the information provided it worked fine. Thanks again.

Is it possible to use a Fast RAD on a CICS instead of using the internal RAD? I have a fast rad that I carry with my laptop to do backups for customers. I do not have a rad on every norstar I maintain so I just plug the rad on a vacant port. Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

Yes, a FastRad will work on a CICS just like on a MICS.
