Hi Everyone,
I just purchased a new Logitech Trackman Wheel pointing device. Installed driver from disc. Restarted. Set pointer movement to suit.
The pointer moves in a pixilated, stairstep fasion; really jerky and difficult to place cursor where I need it. I use AutoCAD and this imprecise movement is affecting my work.
I installed the driver from Logitech web site and restarted.
Same result.
I reattached my old mouse and old trackball device. Same behavior.
Something about this new trackball pointing device changed some setting in my system. Or something.
Can anyone suggest a fix or at least a place to look.
I have sent a note to Logitech, but no response yet.
Thanks so much. This is driving me crazy.

Erik

Have you tried doing a driver rollback/uninstall from device manager?

I happen to have the exact same problem :(
Would you mind saying if you found a solution yet?

Thanks in advance,

If its the wireless kind make sure the batteries are fully charged.

If its the wired kind then try uninstalling the Logitech driver. And Make sure the ball, and optic socket are clean and smooth.

I have a wired Trackman Wheel, and it works flawlessly. In Windows XP, Windows 7, and even my sister's Mac. I have never installed the Logitech drivers and it works perfectly.

Thank you Vacunita for your helpful reply.
It turns out it was my colored mousepad ;) Go figure!

Thanks,

I have a Logitech Trackman Wheel and it uses your thumb to move the ball, no mousepad required at all. Why would your mousepad make a difference when the ball of the mouse never even sees it?

I agree, I have one too. Unfortunately a trackball is not best suited for digital painting nor sculpting, IMHO :(

Agreed, how does your mouse pad get involved here?

your moving the ball with your thumb. The mouse itself should remain static, so it matters very little what you have under it.

Although, I stopped using mouse pads a very long time ago.

Since I started using Trackball mice.

Also the pain in my hand went away when I first started using Microsoft's own trackball, then I had to switch to Logtech when MS discontinued there's, and I'm very happy with it.

It may not be the best tool for digital painting or sculpting (don't know what that's about) but it works nicely for Photo editing and every day usage.

Hi All,

Interesting resurgence of this thread.

My solution to the jumpy trackball was to plug it into a different usb port. Between my monitors, keyboard and computer I have ten. I just found one that allowed the cursor motion to behave the way it should and left it there. No problems since. Apparently, not all usb ports were created equal.

Sometimes when my hands are really dry my thumb doesn't generate enough friction with the ball to move it. It's frustrating until I realize the problem. A little hand lotion does the trick.
