I just bought a new flat panel LCD monitor. When I installed it on my system with Windows XP, is was autodected and installed, and it worked great for about 1 hour. Than the screen went completely dark. The image could just barely be seen by shining a light on the screen. After shutting down the monitor for 20' it worked again for a short time, then went dark again. Now it will not light up even after being off a whole day. When the monitor cable is disconnected, it normally should display a test screen saying "no signal", but that was barely visible. The screen flashes and goes dark. My video adapter is an integrated SiS620, and seems OK, it works with a CRT monitor. When the LCD monitor was working, I was able to run auto calibrate, and the refresh rate seemed to be right.
Could this be a common problem with LCD monitors?

That really does sound like a complete defect, I would take it back for a replacement.

Yes I did return it for an exchange, and hopefully the new one will work!

Yup, sounds like the backlighting on the unit was fubar'd.

So far the new replacement monitor is working good without a problem.
