I felt sudden urge for sweets. I saw New Kit-Kat in veding machine.I grabbed it and while eating it - reading the lable...
New KitKAt!
EXTRA CRISPY Twice the CRISp!*
* as regular KitKat

I am laughing now, do you?

This post is trying to reach a higher level...I guess. At least when you replying this is where you taking it.

The New KitKat: Twice as crispy* and always crispy**!"

* : as regular KitKat
** : while wrapped, YMMV.

While doing some grocery shopping this last weekend, I saw some dips in the deli case. They were in 10 oz. plastic tubs. On the side it said...

NOW 42% More! *
[sup]* Than competitor's 7 oz. size[/sup]

Priceless! I'm now going to have to be on the lookout for stuff like that. :)

I wouldn't think they ACTUALLY put 42% more stuff into the same can using expensive method of suppressing the stuff in half and selling for the same amount of money. Considering gasoline price I would think "It is probably 42% more then competitor's 7 oz. size"

Is 10 really a 42% more then 7?
Maybe in oz. it is...

Actually, 10 is 42.8571% more than 10 (7 * 1.428571 = 10). And that's in any unit of measure, not just oz.

Which weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead?

Was this humor that was just lost on me?

10/7 = 1.429 (or, to put in another way, 3/7 = 0.429) so 10 is 42.9% more than 7. units have nothing to do with it???

It was a joke...I just thought it can't be exactly right 42% and according to anotherhiggins it is 42.9% which is 43 in fact. Nevermind me, please.

I just saw a carton/package of canned soda that contains 36 cans. You can guess what the advertising label announced in big, bold letters:

50% more! [sub] than the 24 can pack[/sub]

[laughtears]

I have no problems here as I KNOW that 36 is 50%more then 24. Unlike with 42% I wasn't sure, sorry.

This has to do with units, but not really this thread:

My Friend: I could sure go for some [terrible type of pizza].
Me: Yeah, I could go for some Meat Lovers! We could get half and half!
My Friend: But who would eat the other two halves?
Me: You're joking right?
My Friend: What?

Mandatory Pizza Joke:
A (Blonde, Aggie, Redneck or whatever-is-joked-about-in-your-area) walked into a pizza place and ordered a pizza.

The guy asked if (the person) would like it cut in 6 pieces or 8.

(The person) exclaims, "Six pieces! I don't think I could eat eight!"

And my lunchtime taste test of the new KitKat results... are inconclusive. More KitKats must be tested to determine if the new one crispier or if the old one softer.

Thought for tgreer: I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Your "thought" falls apart at "what you heard"... doesn't it? It would be better phrased:

"I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you think you heard is not what I said."

Thomas D. Greer

If you think about all the times you said something, then have to wonder "did I just say what I think I said?", the statement makes perfect sense. While I may have said one thing, I most likely "meant" something completely different.

For example, use any Freudian slip.... "If it's not one thing, it's your mother." What was meant and what was said are two different things.

The "thought" is also something that was on a plaque on my grandad's desk when I was little. No idea who said it first, I just hope it's what they meant!

That quote is usually attributed to President Eisenhower.

Here's another from a phone service provider:

Save up to 50% or More On Your Long Distance Telephone Bill!

Si hoc legere scis, nimis eruditionis habes

50% would be a minimum depends on what services you subscribed to. Valid statement for me same as 'When you spend more you save more!'

I finally got it all together and forgot where I put it.

Toshilap,

The contradiction is that the ad first says:
"you can save up to 50% ..."
[tab]-That's a maximum of 50% you can save
But it also says:
"... 50% or more ..."
[tab]-You might save more than 50%
