I recently tried to configure a new IP Phone 2002 on BCM 3.7; the phone remained stuck on "Starting DHCP..". The configuration worked though when given a static IP.
BCM IP address and port were configured similar to other phones that worked with DHCP turned on. Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I had this same issue which was due to unavailability of IP addresses on the network...could be this .....

I was also thinking lack of IP addresses available might be the issue; I tried to deregister one of our IP phones (currently working) to free up the IP, before trying once again to reconfigure the new phone: same results.
Also, new workstations are able to pickup new addresses from the DHCP server. Thanks.

are you using the bcm as the dhcp server or a seperate router? what happens if you manually try to enter a valid ip into your set? are these ip sets on the site where the bcm resides or are they at a remote location?

The bcm has been set up as a vlan; but I don't know whether it is set up as dhcp server or not. If I try to manually enter a valid ip into the set, it works. One thing I noticed on the BCM in the ip telephony section, all the ip addresses for the phones currently working are part of our normal subnet not the bcm's and dhcp is "up" as opposed to "enabled" or "disabled". As for the ip sets they are all on the same site as the bcm.

try manually entering an IP address, then try to ping that IP address from a PC that is working.. This will tell you if the VLAN is blocking the DHCP server.

Also, when running DHCP, set it to Partial and then set the S1 address to the BCM.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It turns out that DHCP is working again on the phone. I'm not sure what did it except that I installed the latest patch for BCM 3.7. The phone is now getting ip addresses from the network's dhcp server.
One more issue I'm wrestling with though: how can I set the BCM as the dhcp server for the ip phones only? I don't want computers on the network picking up ip addresses from the bcm subnet. I've heard that bcm 4.0 gives that option but not bcm 3.7.
