Hello fellow phone techs, I am installing my first IP Office since taking the 3.2 class in March 07. Now working with 4.0 Im finding things a bit different and not running as smoothly as they did in the lab at Avaya.

Heres the rundown:

I upgraded the IPOFFICE from 2.1 out of the box to 4.0
(was this a mistake??, I wonder now)
Installed VMPro on a SBS 2003 server (its not a P4 its a P3 1.13ghz, was this dumb too?)
Its a small setup only 2 users really.
I have a Day Module and Night Module with a Condition for hours of operation.
I have short code for AutoAttend on incomming call route.
Callers can either dial by name
Callers can dial extension 2??
Or Timeout is to Ring Hunt Group (Day Module)or Hunt Group General Mailbox (Night Module)

The Problems:

1.When using Assisted Transfer>Leave Mail, incoming callers can get to users extenstion and VM greeting but calls get cut off VMPro log error " - IntuityRecordNode - the length of the recorded message is too short 18ms < 3000ms"
Anything less than 15 sec message gets cut off.
2.Message light wont go on all phones for Hunt Group "Main" Ext.200 when message is left in vm, if the message even gets recorded.(I have source numbers HMain on every user)
3.Not sure if I am missing short codes so any advice on mandatory shortcodes would be great. All I really have is one for AA on incomming call route and ones to dial my modules. (In 3.2 class we never had to make a short code for every user to check vm, is this new?)

Thats it folks, if I could square those 3 I can go home!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Al

I dont know if it matters or not, but i know Small Business Server is not supported by Avaya whenever it comes to needing a server for anything.

Besides that...I know you can change the minimum record time in the registry.

SBS Server sucks on the IPO. I always use server 2003 or xp pro if i ca get away with it. to get the light on the group phones to light you need to add a source number for each user with H(name of Group) IE HMain and that will light the MWI when a message is light.

asfor the vm. uninstall it and re install with default setting and test

when i make an aa i put the day and night as moudles and route the incoming calls right to it y butting VM:name of module in the destination field of the incoming call route. and i always just use the transfer feature and not the assisted transfer avaya as had problems with that so i have heard.

the minium cpu speed for vmail is a 1.6 GHZ speed so if you have probelms with vmail then avaya will not even help you until that is changed.

If you did not supply the server, then its perfromance is not your issue. Quote a real VMPRO server, and if you already installed the VMPRO server on their machine, and it did not perform because of the server they provided you should charge for re-installing it on the new server. T & M, or at least what you would charge if it was being installed on a system which was just adding VM to an existing system.

As for MWI on groups in Intuity mode, I find H[Group Extn Number] works better. H[Group name] works better in IPO Mode.

Where does ther Assisted Transfer>Leave mail happen. Try a blind Transfer. I also find if the VM does an assisted transfer and that ends up back at VM, it doesn't like it. It's not a fan of transfering to itself.

You shouldn't need a short code for each user to acces thier own vm. *17 or the Messages button on the phone should be ok. just a system short code to access to group VM or Access it through Phone Manager.

Just puttin' my 2 cents worth in on the first question.
That was a little risky going from 2.1 straight to 4.0.
If the 406 was at 2.1 (35) or higher, you can go to 4.0.
If the 406 was at 2.1 (27) or lower, you want to upgrade to
2.1 (35) or higher first then to 4.0.

"The lack of money is the root of all evil

I had the same problem, i've downgraded it to 4.0.15 and everything worked fine. make back-up before you downgrade and put that one in the 4.0.15.

greetzzz...Bas

are you sure you've used 4.0.15 i had that problem with 4.0.18

I mean take the ubnits back down to the original release they came with, and start the upgrade proccess over again.

First off thank you all for your comments. Well its working now, heres what I did:

Picked up a refurb IBM P4 2.8ghz 512RAM for $250 bucks with XP Pro.
Took the IPO back to the last release of 3.2(57 I think)

As soon as both were up, EVERYTHING WORKED!!!
Assisted Transfers, MOH, blind trans...everything!!!

Here is my punch list though of things I still cant figure out:
1. Caller ID shows up on the display twice on the 5402 with any incoming call. Is there anything to program for the A and B buttons or just Line 1 and Line 2, and how can user get Line 3 without a button...short code?
2. Still cant get VM to recognize Source Number for extension. I have V203 for Ext 203 but she still asks for Ext #.
3. Why does some caller ID show name and no. and only some shows just no. Should I call Verizon about this?
4. What are my options for call forward from extension, what are my limitations with 3.2?
5. How do you configure 911?

Thanks everyone for there comments, the next job I am not going to accommodate so much, it def pays to have VMPro on stand alone PC with no network/server entanglements.
Next thing is IMS with Exchange...any advice???

Thanks all for making my first posting on here a rewarding one.

1) why do you need a line 3??? if it is because you don't have another line to transfer on, try reserve last ca in the telephony tab (or pre 4.0 eneter RESERVE_LAST_CA as a user short code).

2) in the default Get Mail start point put a Get Mail action. This should let users in from thier own etn without a password.

3) do the users showing with a name exist in the system directory. if so there is your answer!!!!

4) C/F 3.2/4.0 are the same. All, busy, n/a, hunt group.

5) 911. Can't answer. In the UK we dial 999, simple as that!!!!

Hope this helps.

Well he has 4 lines. The IPO replaced a Panasonic Digital System where they had a button for each number. He is used to seeing all lines at the same time to make a call on one or the other. The other reason would be if he had a call on line 1 and someone was on line 2, I guess he is wondering if he cant pick up the next incoming call while hes on line 1.
Come to think of it that notion makes me wonder the same question accept I would assume once he puts a call on hold he can just grab the next call automatically since the hunt group rings all 4 phones. Can you clarify.

I guess I also just feel the 5402 may have been the wrong phone since the display basically does squat(nothing). How can I at least get the time on it? And what does the "G" mean on the right side of his name?
Cheers,

Al

Your right about the 5402 being the wrong phone, but you can still make it work. Just give him two call appearance buttons as his first two buttons. If someone is on line one, it won't show up on his phone, that means he has the ability to make and take up to two calls.
The G next to his name just means he is in a Group, which you stated he is in the hunt group.
