Hi,
I'm about to install a new Netware server 6.5 on an
HP DL380 G4. When i start the Smartstart CD and
selects Netware 6.5 as the OS it only supports "Netware
6.5 with updated server.exe" When it asks for the OS-cd and I insert the 6.5-cd, which i've dl'ed
from novell and made a media of,it says it
the wrong media.

If I try to boot directly from the 6.5-cd it goes into loop
just after the first 3 selections. When trying to install
the OS.

Any suggestions?

Where do I get that?
Is it the os-cd with sp2 patched already?

make sure you use the smartstart though

building an hp without this is not a good idea
never used the g4

the g3 works no probs - you have made sure netware is in the rbsu

Yeah, Definitely use the Smartstart and make sure your OS selection is NetWare. Otherwise, I don't think there are really any other options you need to worry about (Except turn off Hyperthreading and I always turn off the ASR).

However, you might have a system that doesn't require an OS detection. The last few G4's (ML370's) I've built don't have that option any more.

The overlays are just the NW6.5 CD's with the Service pack 'overlayed' into it. Hence the name. But it's the best way to do it these days. You'll need both the OS (CD#1) and the PROD (CD#2)

i always like to put the f1 prompt to delayed rather than default - prompt

download the overlay CD file from Novell. Create the cd. this will contain SP2 with NetWare 6.5.
