I am trying to install Server 2003 on my server, I have the disk in the cd-rom drive, and have the bios set to boot from the drive. I have 3 scsi drives, raided. This used to be a Novell server. I can boot from a floppy disk, and get into the cd rom and go into I386 and run the winnt file to start a setup that way, but it seems to freeze and not go forward. I need to try and boot from the CD, any help?

Get a CD-drive that boots? Get a BIOS update? Check if the CD is indeed bootable?

Several things you need to check first!

Marcs41,

Thanks for the post. I have a IBM Netfinity 5500 with the most current BIOS revision. After talking with IBM they told me the BIOS doesn't support the Server 2003 disk. I installed 2000 Server first then upgraded. This work perfectly. Just thought I would post what worked in case someone else is having this same problem.

Next time, copy the cd to the harddisk and run setup from there, that saves time and you have a clean install.
And I would INSIST IBM fixes that BUG!

Actually, that is one of the very first things I tried to do, but it just flat didn't work. It wasn't liking the mirror that I had in place at the time.

IBM indicated that they would "look into" updating the BIOS, but the guy on the phone said it would probably be a year or more before it actually got updated.

oh, lol, typical IBM, by next year, if there were a Windows 2004, they will have issues with that too.
I have been through the same pains with IBM in their OS/2 days. Every week or so, there was an update, jee.
