I am about install exchange 2003 on a windows 2000 server. I will be using outlook 2002 clients. Does anyone have any suggestions or white papers on the best way to do this.

I recently read that exchange shoudl not be install on a server that is a domain controllor. this does not seem correct to me, as the install of exchange changes the schema. The writer of this article stated reason for this were that dcpromo would no longer be available and it was slower.

Thank you for your help ahead of time.

Exchange 2003 downloads... includes deployment guides. Can be installed on DC, but not recommended... will run extremely slow. Forest Prep and Domain Prep will modify the schema (used during early installation steps). New AD users and computer tools, I recommend, can be installed on DC (easier to manage resouces). Exchange 2003 is best installed on server 2003. Some features are lost, if installed on server 2000, though I understand if it is a $$ issue.

Thanks for your help!

What features are lost when installed on a 2000 server, or where can I find out about them.

well u wont be able to volume shadow service whichis very useful as a backup solution...another thing if ur using outlook2000 or 2002 as clients then again many features wont be availabe like outlook 2003 works in cached mode by default , spelling checks , improved calenders , S/MIME, and so forth so its better if u run e2k3 on win2k3 and with outlook 2003 clients
