Our users wanted to add an incoming 800 number to our existing Merlin Magix. They want the 800 number to ring on extension 162 at the receptionist desk.
How do I assign the 800 number to that extension?
Thanks

800 numbers are virtual numbers. You need to point that 800 number to a real line. Then you program that line to ring on x162.

I understand that. I have a physical line that the 800 number is associated with.
I need advise on programming the Magix to point the incoming line/trunk to the extension

Do I need to add the line to a pool?
Use a new pool, other than 70
No pool at all?

Well, if pool 70 already rings extension 162 you could just add that line to pool 70. If you want to be able to distinguish that 800 number from other ringing calls, you can assign that specific line to x162.

went into winspm and directed trunk 816 to ext 162. now trunk 816 is constantly "off hook". As soon as I plug in the physical line, I draw dial tone. Ran a test...got dial tone, then I busied out the trunk...dial tone stopped. activated the trunk and dial tone came back immediately.
Appreciate the answers...looks like I am getting close

If when you plug into 816 you immediately go off-hook, it might be an issue with the card. try plugging a known working line into 816 and see what happens. Does it still immediately go off-hook?

I tried 815 and it worked fine...must have a prob with 816. got it working...thanks for the help
