Hi Guys,
Just built a new PC, using the following:
Athlon XP 1800
Syntax SV266AD Motherboard
256 mb Viking PC2100 DDR Ram
The PC will not boot up. It freezes during the post. The Syntax loo splash screen comes up, with the option of entering the BIOS with the del key, but by the time it gets to this point, it is already locked up.
I have checked for overheating, even aimed a small desk fan into the open case, but it doesn't seem to be overheating. Of course without being able to ge into the SETUP utility, I can't tell hoe anything is set.
Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance for your help.

Since it is locking up so early there are only a couple things that it could be. Motherboard or ram. The ram shows up on the mobo compatibility so the problem is either a bad stick of ram or a bad motherboard. Does it lock up in the same exact spot every time? If so I would look at the motherboard, if the spot varies that look more toward the ram.

It started out by freezing in different places. Now it seems to freeze at the same place everytime - at the splash screen.

If you bought the motherboard, ram and cpu locally then I would recommend bringing them in so they can test them, sounds like one of them is faulty. Tough to say which is the bad component when it is locking up so early.
