Hi, I'm new here and this seems like an interesting and informative forum. I have a problem. IE is running way too slow (on Win 98). My wife downloaded a screen saver off the internet and since then we've had problems - even after uninstalling the screen saver.

It's not the connection that's slow, but the application. When I double-click IE on my desktop, it takes over a full minute to open. I have also tried to simply open a JPEG with IE, but it still takes just as long.

There could be several reasons why this is happening. I will give you a couple of things to check.

Clean out your temp files folder. Choose tools, then internet options then delete all off line content. While your in that box also delete all the cookies too. Also in that box click on settings then view objects. If you see something in that box that you dont recognize delete it too. You can delete everything in that box and it will be ok. This is where websites place objects like flash so you can view a spacific kinds of files.

If all else fails you can choose to uninstall IE. When the box appears it should ask you if you want to uninstall or repair. Choose repair and it will fix IE back to the way it was when you first installed it.

Hope this helps !

Thanks for the reply. I have already done everything in your first paragraph of suggestions. I also tried to repair IE a few days ago. I had considered uninstalling it, but how? When I go to Add/Remove, my only options for IE are Add a Component, Repair, and Restore the previous Windows configuration.

I tried repairing again just now, but it's still too slow-no improvement. What does Restore to the previous Windows configuration do and could it help?

If nothing else, how do I uninstall and reinstall it?

Any other suggestions???

Thanks,
DE
