I have been working in the IT department of a company for 4 months now. They have decided to make me in charge of the Merlin Legend phone system.
No one here knows anything about it. The gentleman who set it up and ran it, died 2 years ago.
I have the manuals, they should make things easier to understand.
I guess my biggest problem is an error message. How Do I get rid of it and how to start using the system.

If anyone can help, or steer me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

I am going to suggest that you find an Avaya vendor and pay them to provide you with some training. It may cost a little up front, but will save you a lot in the long term.

Error message is:
INIT: Command is respawning too rapidly. Check for possible errors
id: SA "su - spm - c"/spm/spm319/usr/lib/oucp/uugetty -r -t60 tty00 2400"

I am not a programmer, so this is gobble-d-guck to me.

I am talking with my manager right now about getting some training on this system.

I still need to resolve this error, if I can.

Pardon my asking, but where are you seeing this error.

It does not look like an error within the Legend itself.

Also, what part of the country are you in?

This error is appearing on the computer screen that the phone system runs on. The computer says "Lucent Technologies Intuity" on the front. It looks like a Unix program.
I am in Northeast Ohio, just outside of Cleveland.

Yeah, that's a Unix error..

Looks like it's attempting to go into "Super User" mode (SU). Which is the "administrator" account on Unix systems.

Seems to be attemping to initalize a telnet communications session.

My first guess, is that it's a script error that's attempting to connect to SPM on the legend..

Hey, did you change any passwords recently?

One of my co-workers reset some passwords on the voicemail system.

Could that have done it?

No other pass words have been changed.
