(on the basis, I'd like to see new products/software announced here)

Saw the Mitel 3300 CX II and CXi II announced today, and shipping later this month.

Both come with 512mb RAM (to support v10), whilst the originals, until recently, shipped with 256mb.

And, they now use SATA not IDE/PATA hard drives.
Also, option for an 8gb SSD (solid state drive), eg no moving parts.

Maximum number of IP devices supported by each is now 150 (rather than 100 I think before).

Existing APC cards not supported.

On the topic of the APC card, I never much liked the CXi, as a CX, and separate 24 port PoE switch was cheaper (as long as you didn't go for Cisco). What also bugged me on the CXi was all the switch ports got disabled, for up to 15 minutes, during reboots. So, we always went CX, but then, some of the latter APC functions (Teleworker) were CXi only....

Another product I stumbled across the other day online, a new IP console, along the lines of the SuperConsole® 1000, the 5540:

and:
and:

PoE powered, even then supports 2 x 48 key PKM

Currently only for the SX-200 ICP, but due to be supported by 3300 4th quarter of 2009 (according to one of those links)

What I'd like to see, and have been expecting for years, is a PKM with LCD labelling, to go along with the 5330/5340, particularly since they don't support the old PKMs.

And, whilst I'm rabbling on....
Mitel released the non-backlit 5330, then replaced it with a backlit one for the same price.
Now there is a non-backlit 5320 announced.
Aren't they going to have to do the same (eg re-release it with backlight?)

Hi fissure,
Bang on!
It's all interesting stuff.
I had the exact same thoughts about the need for a paperless PKM. After reading the specs on the 5320 my immediate thought was for backlit like you observed.
What we need is some Sub-attendant as well...

Dave

You can't believe anything you read... unless of course it's this.

The 5540 is only for the sx-200 and it is ugly !!!

5540 IP Console is supported on the 200 ICP, Release 5.0.

General Availability (GA) of the 5540 IP Console is June 6, 2009

Hi tlpeter,
I guess I'd consider the new console (5540) to be more "retro" than ugly. Beauty is in the eye...?
:>)
It is much more powerful than the 5324/PKM things we install and way less cumbersome than the 5550 in many situations as well.
But, every market is different. What are you guys putting in at the good old receptionist position these days?

Personally i do not like all the consoles :)

The 5550 with it's software is too limited for what it costs
I rather put in a 5340 or a 5324 with a pkm on it
But when it is for a big company then you can not do without a 5550 :)
The 5540 looks like it is from 1990 and i think we are way past that time

If i was replacing a pbx and i would see the 5540 i would bin it without taking a good look at it :)

Good functionality does not have to look old fashion !

The 5320 is in response to enduser demand for a much less expensive self-labeling, but otherwise dumbed-down instrument. Not only is it not backlit, it's 8 lines/keys only. While a good fit in our organization (we hate typing Desi's) I anticipate a lot of griping about not being backlit.

I agree re the need for the separate POE for the CXi. The "network" being taken down coincidental w/the phone system for 15 minutes at a whack is perceived by the customer as too much infrastructure down all at once. Of course that's one of the penalties of combining your voice & data network. It's unquestionably a savings, but with a very pregnant service interruption when it happens.

I'm still waiting for the day someone pushes the Halon/FM200 button again and we lose the core router...

That's when the wakeup will occur between the differences between IP and TDM. Right now everyone's still sipping the champagne.

SO the 5540 is made because there are really request about a phone like that ???

I rather put in the new 5360 :)

I think that is the difference between America/Canada and Europe to be honest :)

I agree about the labels
Avaya have phone's where you can program the labels like on the 5330 and 5340 but they have a cheaper serie phones with paper labels :)

It is not a problem if you have 20 till 50 phones but if it thousands of phones you have a problem :)
