New fields are grey 1

Hi, I searched for this but couldn't find it anywhere. I used the "contact management" template to enter in names and addresses. I added a new field, however, that field is a light grey while all the other fields are in black in the Browse Mode | Table view. I tried changing the color to black, but it doesn't work. Can anyone tell me what the grey fields mean?

are u sure u have defined that field and not button?
u should be able to change it in design view

hm that is odd....try:
in layout Mode (layout Table)
right-click on the "salutation" field and go to "Field Format" and make sure that u have Allowed Entry checked....

sorry that didn't work for you...I dont know what to say unless your DB is password/per record protected it should work....were u able to look at the little movie I made? did that look like it was close?

That's ok. This was actually the first database I made with FileMaker, so I'm sure I left a switch off somewhere or something. I did watch the movie and really appreciated it, thanks again.
