Hi I am a very experience user of access (but learning). I have a table of information and would like to create a new field in the table which combines 2 other fields. I want to do this in the table and not as a query. Can this be done and how do I do it

Thanks

Paul
PS I am using access 2002

No it can't be done in a table.
You must either use a form or a query.

Hi
Unless you mean editing the table to create a new field, then updating that field so it now contains (say) Field1 + Field2. But as Lupins46 says, a query or form would probably be best.

Hi
Surely if ashtonp2 means that s/he put two fields in a table:
Colour
Material
and has now decided s/he ought to have had a single field [Material Colour], s/he can create such a field and then run an update query to set [Material Colour] to [Material] & " " & [Colour]

Yes of course - that's what everyone is saying.
The original question stated:
'I want to do this in the table and not as a query'

Oops. Missed this bit:
