I have written a new FAQ on searching for files:

NOTE: This is not to search for a file by name or keyword, but instead to search for any files recursively matching certain file types.

It's a multi-threaded component which can be installed into your palette.

NOTE: I have tested this component, but not too extensively. I've run multiple image filters on a large directory structure of over 6,000 different images, a number of different times, and have only found very minor flaws, such as the "OnStop" event being triggered a millisecond before the very last search result. Surely this component could use some more work, but it's in a good working state as it is.

NOTE: I have done many modifications to this thread and I will update it as soon as I have a stable copy. I'm trying to build this thing to be universal. I now have a field for Keywords (Search String) yet it's not yet doing a very intelligent filteration of files based on the keywords.

What I will do is compare each result to the search string. I will first need to format the search string, so that the comparison can properly parse it. This consists of removing all unnecessary spaces and splitting AND and OR statements.

Many things can be done to this component, and I'm hoping someone can add more. Keep in mind I've stabilized my current version but it's too incomplete at the moment to re-post in the FAQ. Once I post the new version (along with sample implementation), I will only hope that someone will take this to another level and share it back here.
